The topic of the debate.
Preposition
Occurs when a conclusion is drawn based on insufficient evidence.
Hasty Generalization
A debate requires two people or groups who possess opposing viewpoints.
Participants
Ad hominem in Latin, is an attempt to question the truth of an argument by attacking the character of the person making the argument.
Personal Attack (Ad Hominem)
The first statement put forward by either participant in the debate.
Constructive arguments
Arguments state that by taking a small first step, a chain reaction will occur and irreversibly lead to some significant outcome. The final predicted outcome is usually undesirable.
Slippery slope
This individual or team disagrees with the proposition.
Negative
A speaker will attempt to introduce an argument that is not relevant to the topic under discussion.
Red Herring
A response intended to weaken an opponent's arguments.
Rebuttals
Occur when the final conclusion is used as a premise to prove itself.
Circular Argument (Circular reasoning)
