What are the differences between the ICC and ICJ?

The ICC (International Criminal Court) deals with criminals (individuals) who have committed war crimes/crimes against humanity. The court has no police to enforce its warrants and depends on its member States to implement its orders.

The ICJ (International Court of Justice) deals with disputes between UN member states. The court can rule on two types of case: “contentious cases” are legal disputes between States and “advisory proceedings” are requests for advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by United Nations organs and certain specialized agencies.
