wear their own clothing, keep your personal belonging in a private place that you can access whenever you want to, use their own personal possessions, see visitors (friends, family, have a girlfriend or boyfriend visit), privately, use the telephone privately, read their own mail, write and receive letters without them being read, refuse electric shock therapy, refuse painful stimuli, say NO to anyone trying to change the way you act by scaring you, hurting you, or upsetting you, say NO to brain surgery to change the way you act, choose how you spend your free time and who to spend your free time with, services that help you live, work and play in the most normal way possible, keep and spend your own money on the things you want and keep and use your own things, freedom of religion, meet people and take part in your community, exercise and have fun, say NO to things that will put you in danger, make choices about where you will live, who you will live with, the way you spend your time and who you will spend time with.

What is an advocate?

Click on each medication, on the MAR, as it is verified or popped into the med cup, then click save when all medications have been prepared, and BEFORE medications are administered to the client.  EACH AND EVERY TIME a medication (s) are passed.

How often do we wash the client's hair, do we need to dry each person's hair before going to bed, is it acceptable to pull wet hair into a ponytail and put to bed?

Unless otherwise ordered, we do wash clients' hair daily (this being said, this may be changing). 

We must thoroughly dry a client's hair before going to bed, using a blow dryer for long hair.

No it is NOT acceptable to pull a client's long hair into a pony tail and put to bed wet.

What training do you need to be an advocate for another person?

Be educated on the topic that requires advocacy, for instance - if going to the doctor with a person who requires assistance discussing their symptoms of having a urinary tract infection, know their symptoms, the customary names of the body parts, and do not ask stupid questions or waste the doctor's time by discussing your own problems... like you know I once peed out a gallon of blood and passed out in the street when I had a bladder infection.  It was the worst pain I ever had and it was nothing like my friend's here, it was so bad I had a temperature of 115 degrees, and my blood pressure was 200/120 and that night I went to a party and drank 27 margueritas and danced on the table all night.

Where are the care plans kept? AND Who updates the care plans? AND How often must you review and sign the care plans?

In the care plan binder in the med room.  The RN updates the care plan.  At least quarterly, and when there are changes.
