Giving someone or someone else the responsibility for your actions.
Repression
A conscious or unconscious attempt to shove feelings away and not think about them or deal with them.
Isolation or withdrawal
Controlling
Trying to manage or regulate your environment or the people around you to resolve your inner conflict.
Rationalization
Rational explanations used in an attempt to justify a feeling/thought/behavior that would normally be unacceptable.
Displacement
Shifting feelings to another person/object/idea that is similar to the original.
Sexualization
Giving a person, object, or event sexual significance that it would not otherwise have in order to handle feelings. People might use crude jokes to do this.
Intellectualization
Thinking about things instead of feeling them.
Regression
Attempting to return to an earlier phase of development and functioning to avoid the feelings at the present moment.
Projection
Assuming that others feel the same way that you do. Putting your feelings, thoughts, or opinions on them.
Reaction formation
First you repress unwanted thoughts, then you try to think or feel the opposite.
