Scope
As used in this chapter, the terms defined in this section have the meanings given to them
Court
Juvenile court unless otherwise specified in this section
A individual under the age of 18
Minor
Any person who is under legal obligation to provide any care or support for a minor
Custodian
Juvenile alcohol offense
A violation by a child of any provision of section 340A.503
Agency
Local social services agency or a licensed child placing agency
Someone has violated and state or local law as a child
Delinquent child
Parent
An individual who births or adopts a minor
Secure detention facility
A physically restricting facility including but not limited to a jail, hospital, state institution or residential treatment center
A violation by a child of section 152.027, subdivision 4
Juvenile controlled substance offense
Child
An individual under 18 years of age and includes any minor alleged to have been delinquent or a juvenile traffic offender prior to becoming 18 years of age.
24hr substitute care for children placed away from parent or guardian
Foster care
Person
A juvenile alcohol offense, controlled substance offense, etc.
Juvenile petty offender/offense
Indian
A person who is a member of an Indian tribe or who is an Alaskan native
Child Placing Agency
Anyone licensed under sections 245A.01 to 245A.16 and 252A.28 subdivision 2
Legal Custody
The right to the care, custody, and control of a child who has been taken from a parent by the court
A parent, stepparent, brother, sister, grandmother, grandfather, aunt or uncle of a minor
Relative
Shelter care facility
A unrestricted facility such as a hospital, group home, etc.
Indian child
Consistent with section 260.755 subdivision 8
