Density is 2 g/mL

100

Define density

The amount of matter per unit volume

100

A student takes bread and slices it into 10 slices. Chemical or physical change? WHY

Physical, no new substances created

100

The color blue

physical

100

What are CCHS school colors?

What are purple and gold

200

Find density if: Mass is 50 g Volume is 10 mL

Density = 5 g/mL

200

What units do we use for density?

grams per milliliter (g/mL) or grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm3)

200
Your friend decides to toast bread but leaves it in too long. The bread turns black and fills the room with smoke. Chemical or physical change? WHY?
Chemical- color change, smoke (gas), new substance created
200

Flammability (Burns)

Chemical

What is Mrs Dowdy's favorite candy?

What is Reeses Peanut Butter Cups

300
Find volume if: Density is 2.98 g/mL Mass is 78 g
Volume is 26.2 mL
300

What is the density of water (with units!)

1 g/mL

300

You blow dry your wet hair. Chemical or physical change? WHY

Physical- no new substances are being created, but water is evaporating

300

Boiling point

Physical

300

What are the 3 base units in chemistry

What are meter, liter, and gram

400

Find mass if: Density is .65 g/mL Volume is 909 mL

mass is 590.85 g

400

List the materials in order from most to least dense: honey, sulfur gas, frozen water (ice), liquid water, iron nail

Iron nail, honey, liquid water, frozen water, sulfur gas

400

Is evaporation a chemical change? WHY or WHY NOT?

No, it is a change of state and there was no new substance created.

400

How do you tell the difference between chemical and physical properties?

Physical- observed through senses and determined without destroying (Changing) matter Chemical- indicates how a substance reacts with something else, it will be a new substance after the reaction.

400

How much of a Jelly fish is water?

What is 95%

500
You have a liquid with a mass of 54 g and volume of 202 mL. Is the liquid more or less dense than water?
Less
500

Explain how a thermometer works using the principles of density.

As temperature increases, molecules in the thermometer get more excited and take up more space (greater volume) as they bounce off each other. This leads to the liquid rising. The hotter the material, the less dense.

500

Name 3 of the 5 ways to tell if a chemical change took place

Color change, Temperature change, precipitate forms, bubbles form, odor produced
