Healthy or Not
100
Why do we eat?
To get energy and to grow
100
What is absorption in the context of digestion?
The process of taking in small molecules (food molecules, vitamins, minerals) into the body
100
The Big Threes of macronutrients
What is Carbohydrates/starch, Protein, Fats
100
Title must be...
What is underlined
100
What is an RDA
What is recommended dietary/daily amount. How much of each nutrient you should get daily
200
Why do we have to digest our food?
Food molecules are too big to pass through the walls of the small intestine. We have to break big food molecules into smaller molecules so they can be absorbed in the small intestine.
200
Where does absorption take place?
The small intestine
200
What foods have a lot of protein?
What is meat, lentils, eggs, beans
200
The output variable is...
What you are measuring
200
High blood pressure, stroke
What is too much salt
300
What's an enzyme?
What is a protein that helps break down big food molecules into smaller molecules in the body
300
Increased surface area, blood supply, one cell thick, finger-like structure
What is villi

The Little Twos of nutrients
What is vitamins and minerals
300
The input variable is...
What you are changing (manipulating)
300
Diabetes, obesity
What is too much sugar
400
What happens to an enzyme if the temperature around it is too hot?
The enzyme won't work anymore
400
Why can't we digest fiber?
Fiber is made of cellulose, which is a sugar that makes up the cell walls of plants. We don't have the enzyme, cellulase that breaks down cellulose.
400
Not enough of this can cause bleeding gums, loose teeth, scaled skin.
What is Vitamin C

Heart attack, overweight, not enough exercise
What is obesity

Will chewing steak for a very long time make it taste sweet?
No. Amylase, an enzyme that is produced in the mouth only helps break down carbohydrates/starch into sugar. Carbohydrates are is found in breads, rice, potatoes...etc. Even if meat did get broken down in the mouth, it wouldn't taste sweet because it is not made of carbohydrates, but proteins, which are made of amino acids.
500
Why must the small intestine have a large surface area?
To increase the efficiency of absorption
500
What is a balanced diet?
What is eating appropriate amounts of a variety of foods from each food group.
500
What is a line of best fit?
What is something that shows the general trend of data
500
What is a diet?
The food that you eat
