a situation in source criticism where a piece of information appears to come from multiple independent sources, but in reality comes from only one source. 1 example is when a news source reports on something and then another news source uses that information. Then source #1 will cite source #2 in their article. Example 2 is when multiple people report on the same false information and no one knows where it started.
