B. Fossils

C. Watch dinosaur movies

B. Fossils.

If the skull has powerful jaws and long, sharp teeth, then the dinosaur was most probably a meat-eater, a carnivore. The teeth were used to rip apart meat. Wide, flat teeth with ridges indicate that the dinosaur was a plant-eater, a herbivore. The teeth were used to mash and grind tough vegetation.

This fish survived the mass extinction of dinosaurs. What is it's name?

A. Catfish

B. Coelacanth

C. Relicanth

D. Anorith

Coelacanths (seel-a-canths) were once known only from fossils and were thought to have gone extinct approximately 65 million years ago (mya), during the great extinction in which the dinosaurs disappeared. The most recent fossil record dates from about 80 mya but the earliest records date back as far as approximately 360 mya. At one time coelacanths were a large group comprising about 90 valid species that were distributed worldwide in both marine and freshwaters. Today, there are two known living species.

Pteranodon had a long crest on its head, which may have worked as a rudder during flight. Dimorphodon was very small and only had a wingspan of between 1.2 and 2.5 metres. Palaeontologists think that it lived and hunted along seashores and rivers.

A. Archaeopteryx

B. Gastornis

C. Pteranodon

D. Caudipteryx

Archaeopteryx is the first known flying bird, but it would not have been a very efficient flyer because of its primitive skeleton and long tail. The chick of the hoatzin bird, which lives in Venezuela and Guyana, has claws on each wing that are very similar to archaeopteryx's. It uses them to climb and cling onto trees.
