Where in the cell does DNA replication occur?
The Nucleus
Transcription: What does is make? Where does it take place?
RNA. Nucleus.
Name the two enzymes involved in DNA replication and describe their function.
Helicase: unzips/unwinds the DNA helix by breaking the bonds between the bases.
Ligase: makes DNA by adding complementary bases to the other side of each of the original strands.
Why can’t DNA leave the nucleus?
DNA is too large, outside the nucleus is too dangerous
Mutations in these types of cells are felt by the parent and NOT passed down to offspring
Body cells
Name 4 differences between DNA and RNA.
DNA: deoxyribose, thymine, double-stranded, made by DNA replication.
RNA: ribose, uracil, single-stranded, made by transcription.
1) The bonds that the ribosomes use to hold amino acids together during protein synthesis are called…
Peptide bonds.
