5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

9 But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so, the things of God knoweth no man, but the spirit of God.

1 Corinthians 2:5, 9–11

Which Apostle defined trust like this ... and what verse was he referring to

....To trust means to obey willingly without knowing the end from the beginning. To produce fruit, your trust in the Lord must be more powerful and enduring than your confidence in your own personal feelings and experience.

Richard G. Scott

("Trust in the Lord," Ensign, Nov. 1995, 17)

(see Prov. 3:5-7)

300

15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

2 Timothy 3:15–17

300

8 And now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts; and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing. For if ye would hearken unto the Spirit which teacheth a man to pray, ye would know that ye must pray; for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray.

9 But behold, I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul.

2 Nephi 32:8–9

118 And as all have not faith, seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith.

Elder David E Sorensen told this story ….One day, in one of the loose bundles pitched onto the wagon was a rattlesnake? I became very curious. I started to get closer and leaned over for a better look, when suddenly I heard a call from my father: “David, my boy, you can’t pet a rattlesnake?”…

…today’s popular entertainment often makes what is evil and wrong look enjoyable and right. Let us remember the Lord’s counsel: “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil” ... what scripture was he referring to?  What issue of the Ensign?

David E. Sorensen

(Ensign, May 2001, 41)

(Isa. 5:20)

400

5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

James 1:5-6 King James Version

400

9. Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend.

10. And again, believe that ye must repent of your sins and forsake them, and humble yourselves before God; and ask in sincerity of heart that he would forgive you; and now, if you believe all these things see that ye do them.

Mosiah 4:9-10

Which Prophet said ...

It is never too late to learn...I know of no other practice which will make one more attractive in conversation than to be well-read in a variety of subjects.

Said the Lord to you and to me: "Seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith. ... Organize yourselves. ... Cease to be idle" (D&C 88:118-119, 124).

The best books are the scriptures. Said the Lord: "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me" (John 5:39).

... Reading will sharpen your mind. It will clean up your intellect. It will improve your speech to get into the thoughts of the great men and women of the ages, including those of our own age.

Gordon B. Hinckley

("A Conversation with Single Adults," Ensign, Mar. 1997, 62)

Which scripture says that our faith should not come by the wisdom of men but by the Power of God.

Does the power of God refer to reason or revelation?

1 Corinthians 2:5  9–11

Revelation

500

Jesus Christ our Lord is under no obligation to save this world. ....They stand at his mercy which will be extended only if they repent. But to what extent have we repented? Another prophet said, “We call evil good, and good evil.” Men have rationalized themselves into thinking that they are “not so bad.” .... Even in the true Church numerous of its people fail to attend their meetings, to tithe their incomes, to have their regular prayers, to keep all the commandments. We can transform, but will we?

Which member of the first presidency said this about doing the will of God. - John 7:16-17

"...the effect of sincere prayer and of careful scripture study is to always feel an urging to do things. ... Real spiritual sight comes to the heart softened by obedience... The Lord made that clear, ... 'My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.' "

(John 7:16-17.)

6. And now, I Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive not witness until after the trial of your faith.

Ether 12:6

Who said

... the spirit of revelation; for instance, when you feel pure intelligence flowing into you, it may give you sudden strokes of ideas, so that by noticing it, you may find it fulfilled the same day or soon; (i.e.) those things that were presented unto your minds by the Spirit of God, will come to pass; and thus by learning the Spirit of God and understanding it, you may grow into the principle of revelation, until you become perfect in Christ Jesus.

Joseph Smith

(Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, selected and arranged by Joseph Fielding Smith [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1976], 151.)

Ether 12:6 (after the trial of our faith)

Which Prophet said this of members of the church who call evil good and good evil?

We call evil good, and good evil.” Men have rationalized themselves into thinking that they are “not so bad.” .... Bruce R. McConkie said "This single verse of scripture has had a greater impact and a more far-reaching effect upon mankind than any other single sentence ever recorded by any prophet in any age...

"And it might well be added that every investigator of revealed truth stands, at some time in the course of his search, in the place where Joseph Smith stood.. must turn to the Almighty and gain wisdom from God by revelation if he is to gain a place on that strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life."

What verse was it?   How does it apply to our salvation?

(Doctrinal New Testament Commentary, 3 vols. [Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1965-1973], 3: 247.)

James 1:5–6

By sincerely asking to know God's will in our life we start the journey to eternal life.

600

10:4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

10:5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

Moroni 10:4–5

Which Prophet said

...Looking unto the Lord in every thought is the only possible way we can be the kind of men and women we ought to be.

The Lord asked the question ... "What manner of men ought ye to be?" He then answered His own question by saying, "Even as I am." (3 Ne. 27:27.)

To become as He is, we must have Him on our minds-constantly in our thoughts.... if we are to be like Christ, then we must think Christlike thoughts.

Ezra Taft Benson

("Think on Christ," Ensign, Mar. 1989, 4)
