Maintaining client dignity is a core responsibility of an RBT. Some ways an RBT can maintain client dignity include (give at least one example):

  1. Respecting Privacy & Confidentiality: RBTs should never share identifying information about their clients with anyone not involved in the client's care or treatment plan.This includes following legal laws (e.g. HIPAA). 

  2. Promoting Autonomy: RBTs should provide opportunities for their clients to make choices and express preferences.

  3. Respectful Communication: RBTs should always communicate with their clients respectfully and avoid using negative language or labels. Additionally, they should speak respectfully about their client’s progress.

  4. Cultural Sensitivity: RBTs should acknowledge and respect the cultural backgrounds and individual differences of their clients.
