Step 4
Significant steps are taken to end the problem behavior. The individual might be avoiding triggers, reaching out for help, or taking other steps to avoid temptation.
Action stage
The person tries the substance for the first time.
First Use stage

Step 1
The individual is in denial and is not seriously considering changing their behavior.
Precontemplation
In this stage the person starts having to take more of the substance to get to get high. The brain has gotten use to the substances and therefore it takes more of the substance for the person to get high.
Tolerance stage
Mind-altering psychoactive drug. Dry, shredded, green/brown mix of flowers, stems, seeds and leaves from the cannabis sativa plant.
Marijuana
Behavioral patterns that help people manage their emotions, thoughts, and actions in the face of stressful situations. They can help people with addiction maintain sobriety and prevent relapse.
Coping skills
Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
Step 8
The individual may continue to face challenges, but at this point they have successfully changed their behavior for a significant period of time. Relapse After making changes, some individuals will return to their previous problem
Maintenance Stage
The person is no longer able to stop using the drugs, even when the consequences are severe. The person's desperation to continue to be able to use the drugs causes them to do anything to be able to continue to get the drug.
Addiction stage
This substance acts as both a stimulant and hallucinogen, producing an energizing effect, distortions in time and perception, and enhanced enjoyment of tactile experiences. Often referred to as a party drug.
Ecstasy or MDMA
A chronic, relapsing disorder characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use despite adverse consequences.

Step 12
The individual has decided to change their behavior, and they begin to think about how to do so.
Preparation stage
The person keeps using the substances to feel a certain way. The person will not go through any withdrawal symptoms if they were to stop using the substances in this stage.
Continued use
Synthetic designer drugs that are intended to mimic THC, the main psychoactive ingredient of marijuana. These designer synthetic drugs are from the synthetic cannabinoid class of drugs
K2 or Spice
A person's diminished response to a drug that is the result of repeated use.
Tolerance
Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
Step 9
The individual is experiencing ambivalence about change. They can see reasons to change their behavior, but they are still hesitant. The problem behavior continues.
Contemplation
In this stage the person needs to continue to use the substance to help them avoid withdrawal symptoms. The brain has gotten to the point that it feels that it needs the substance to function normally.
Dependence stage
