Countries may think that the GNH index full of qualitative indicators is too hard to measure improvements and it is much easier to measure quantitative indicators such as GDP.

When GDP per capita is calculated, small countries with a low population are often at an advantage over countries with large populations.

Countries tend to have a few very wealthy people but a lot more people on low or average pay. When the GDP is calculated the wealth gets distributed evenly across everybody so the smaller the population, the less times the wealth of the very wealthy gets divided.
