What is Domestic/Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking
In 2020, Evansville PD responded to approximately 5,515 domestic violence calls
What is fact?
Name a person and/or office on campus that is a confidential resource
What is Counseling Services, Spiritual Formation, Project SafeSpace?
A witness to a potentially harmful situation, who steps in, speaks up and/or seeks help. He, she or they have the power to change the outcome of a negative situation by intervening.
What is active bystander?
Domestic Violence only applies to physical abuse.
What is misconception? Domestic violence can consist of (but not limited to) emotional/psychological, financial, social, environmental, spiritual, sexual, and physical abuse.
Consists of an active, conscious, and voluntary decision by each participant to engage in mutually agreed-upon sexual activity.
What is consent?
In Indiana, 1 in 8 men reported sexual violence
What is fiction? 1 in 4 men reported experiencing sexual violence at some point in their lifetime.
The office a student would contact if they experienced harassment, assault, or abuse, and chose to file a report on Campus.
What is the Title IX Office?
The college-based bystander intervention curriculum and training that UE plans to use. This prevention program relies on the premise that if everyone does their small part and commits to individual responsibility, the combined effect is a safe campus culture that is intolerant of violence.
What is Green Dot?
Individuals who choose to stay in an abusive relationship are not victims. They could leave their partners if they wished to do so.
What is misconception? There are many reasons why an individual may not, or cannot, leave their partner. These include fear, lack of economic resources, isolation, fear of losing children, and the danger of leaving.
Any sexual act directed against another person, without the consent of the individual, including instances where the person is incapable of giving consent.
What is sexual assault?
When an abuser has a gun, it increases the likelihood of homicide by 500%
What is fact?
If someone at the University of Evansville experiences dating violence, stalking, and/or sexual assault, this campus program offers prevention education, community resources, and survivor support (Open to Students, Faculty, & Staff)
What is Project SafeSpace?
A method of intervention that involves working with someone else or asking another individual to address a concern when you do not feel prepared, safe, or able to do so.
What is delegate?
Victims/Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence are more likely to visit the Emergency Department, particularly at vulnerable times during their relationship.
What is truth? A review of cases of women murdered by a partner found that 44% had visited the Emergency Department within two years of their death. Of these, 93% had at least one visit to the Emergency Department related to an injury.
A course of conduct involving more than one instance of unwanted attention, harassment, unwanted physical or verbal contact, use of threatening words, or any course of conduct that could be reasonably regarded as alarming
What is stalking?
People with disabilities experience violent crimes at the same rate as people without disabilities
What is fiction? People with disabilities experience nearly twice the rate of violent crime, and some forms (like sexual violence) are up to four times as highes than for nondisabled people
This Southern Indiana Victim Services agency provides emergency shelter, mobile advocacy, crisis intervention, and several other services to victims/survivors of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking.
What is the Albion Center?
A method of intervention in which you address the situation head on. Step in and say or do something to stop the situation.
What is direct?
A quarter of countries across the world currently do not have any laws in place to protect women form domestic violence.
What is truth? The United Nations reports that 49 countries have no laws protecting women from domestic violence.
These are tactics that an abusive partner may use in a relationship.
What is power and control?
The vast majority of stalking victims are stalked by someone they do not know.
What is fiction? Stalking victims are most frequently stalked by people they do know. 40% by a current/former intimate partner. 42% by an acquaintance.
This statewide coalition's 24-hour hotline can be used to reach domestic violence and sexual assault resources across Indiana
What is The Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV)
As the number of bystanders increases, the personal responsibility that an individual bystander feels decreases. Consequently, so does the individual’s tendency to help.
What is diffusion of responsibility?
Abusers are violent due to difficulty with impulse control and/or anger management.
What is misconception? A majority of abusers do not suffer from impulse control, as they are skilled at keeping their controlling and abusive behavior behind closed doors.
