a device consisting of a wheel or disc mounted so that it can spin rapidly about an axis which is itself free to alter in direction. The orientation of the axis is not affected by tilting of the mounting, so gyroscopes can be used to provide stability or maintain a reference direction in navigation systems, automatic pilots, and stabilizers.

Static balance occurs when the centre of gravity of an object is on the axis of rotation. This allows the object to remain stationary, with the axis horizontal, without the application of any braking force. Static balance has no tendency to rotate due to the force of gravity.

A balancing machine is a measuring tool used for balancing rotating machine parts such as rotors for electric motors, fans, turbines, disc brakes, disc drives, propellers and [[pump]s. The machine usually consists of two rigid pedestals, with suspension and bearings on top supporting a mounting platform

flywheel

1) Flywheel reduces the unavoidable fluctuation of the speed arising due to the difference between driving torque and the land torque over the cycle of operation.
2) The flywheel is always under operation when the engine is running.
3) The flywheel has no influence on the mean speed of the engine. It only takes care about the fluctuation of the speed.
4) If the cyclic fluctuation of energy is very less flywheel may be excluded from the system also.

GOVERNOR:

1) The governor controls and maintains the engine operation and its main speed under different load conditioned by varying the fuel supply to the engine.
2) The governor operates only when the engine is not running at its mean speed.
3) The governor has no influence on the cyclic speed fluctuation , it only ensures the engine running smoothly at mean speed.
4) Governor is required at l time in the engine system since it controls the fuel supply to the engine.

A gyroscope is a device that uses Earth's gravity to help determine orientation. Its design consists of a freely-rotating disk called a rotor, mounted onto a spinning axis in the center of a larger and more stable wheel

he process of providing the second mass in order to counteract the effect of the centrifugal force of the firstmass, is called balancing of rotating masses. The following cases are important from the subject point of view: 1. Balancing of a single rotating mass by a single mass rotating in the same plan
