What is orthostatic vital?
To assess low fluid volume
What are vital signs?
Respiration, Pulse, Blood Pressure, Skin Signs, Pupils, and Pulse Oximetry (measure of oxygen saturation in the blood)
Skin condition checks/ color?
color, temperature, moisture, capillary refill. Color check is inside of lower eyelid, inside of check, nail beds and palms of hands and soles in infants, children and dark skinned person.
What should pupils look like ?
Pupils are Equal Round Reactive to Light and Accommodation (PERRLA)
How often do you check vital signs of an unstable patient? What about stable patients?
Every 5 minutes for unstable patients and 15 minutes for stable patients.
Why is blood pressure important?
It measures the force of the blood against the artery walls when the heart contracts and relaxes.
Pulse for Adults? Pulse for Children?
Adult: 60 to 100 beats per minute
Child over 7: 70 to 90 beats per minute
Child 1-7: 80 to 110 beats per minute
Infants: 100 to 160 beats per minute
Where does O2 and CO2 exchange? What comes in and where? What goes out and where?
In the Aveoli, Oxygen goes into the lungs and Carbon Dioxide goes out through the tissues.
What is systolic and dyastolic?
Systolic is the left ventricle contracting to push blood into arteries. Dyastolic is when the left ventricle of the heart relaxes .

Adult: 12 to 20 breaths per minute
Child:15 to 30 breaths per minute
What is Apnea? What is Dyspnea?
Apnea is the absence of respirations. Dyspnea is difficult or labored breathing.
What is Hypertension and Hypotension?
Hypertension is abnormally high blood pressure. Hypotension is is abnormally low blood pressure.
What is a normal BP? What is Hypertension? What is Hypotension?
100/60-120/80 is normal. Hypertension BP is 140/90. Hypotension is less than 100
