Tessa works for $15 per hour and works 10 hours.

Tarra works for $10 per hour and works for 15 hours.

How much does each of the girls earn? Explain what you notice about their earnings.

They each earn $150.

Even though the girls get paid different amounts per hour, they also work different amounts of hours. This means they earn the same, however Tessa is better off as she gets more pay (money) per hour and therefore works less than Tarra who has to work 5 more hours to get the same pay.

rent $850                   food $380

entertainment $150     transport $120

Rent, food, transport and phone are often set. Everyone needs to pay for shelter and eat to survive Phone and transport are essential to for work, not only to get there but for communication.

Entertainment and clothes are not essential to survive. She could reduce how many clothes she buys each month, or spend less on entertainment, going to shows, movies etc.
