This sphere is all of the frozen water on Earth.

What is the cryosphere?

100
Sediment that becomes layered and compacted.

What is sedimentary rock?

100

It has a pure substance throughout.

What is a mineral?

100

Where two plates meet

What are plate boundaries?

100

Lines that run around the globe and tell you how North or South you are from the equator.

What is lines of latitude?

200

This part of the Earth includes the mantle, crust, and core.

What is the geosphere?

200

Metamorphic rocks form by

What is heat and pressure in the Earth's mantle

200

Crystalline Structure

What is a repeating pattern of atoms?

200

What occurs at plate boundaries?

Earthquakes and volcanoes

200

Lines that run up and down on a globe and measure East or West from the prime meridian.

What is longitude?

300
A large flood eroded a river bed. The stream was filled with sediment. Name the two spheres interacting.

What is interaction between hydrosphere and geosphere?

300

Rocks that cool quickly.

What are small crystals? What is extrusive igneous rock?

300

Describe the 5 characteristics of minerals?

Solid, inorganic, naturally occurring, crystalline structure, definite chemical composition
300

Describe what forms and how a divergent boundary forms

Divergent boundaries are two plates spreading apart and they form new crust.

300
The lines that show change in elevation.

What are contour lines?

400
A rock gets water that freezes and then causes the rock crack, this is called frost wedging. The spheres interacting are.

What is cryosphere and geosphere?

400

Describe how a igneous rock can become a sedimentary rock. Be specific with steps.

1. Igneous rock gets weathered by wind, rain, or water.

2. It forms sediments.

3. The sediments are carried through erosion. 4. Sediments get compacted over time.

5. Those sediments then get compacted and layered into a sedimentary rock.

400

What are the 2 environmental conditions for crystals  to form?

Heat and water

400

The rising and falling of mantle due to differences in temperature and densities that cause the plates to move.

What are convection currents?

400

You are going to measure the height of plants that receive different amount of water. To see which amount of water is best to increase the plant growth. Name the dependent and independent variable.

Dependent Variable: Plant Growth / Plant Height

Independent Variable: The amount of water

500

The air temperature is increasing which is causing animals to move more North to higher latitudes. What two spheres are interacting?

Atmosphere and Biosphere

500

Describe how the rock cycle is a physical change and a chemical change.

When rocks melt as they get subducted. The atoms rearrange and form a new substance ( a new rock) as they are melted. They are also a chemical change due to chemical weathering.  Rain is slightly acidic and can cause rocks to break down and atoms to rearrange. Carbon Dioxide can be formed from limestone. Weathering can be a physical change such as frost wedging.

500

Describe how crystals to form different sizes.

If crystals cool slowly than they can be big in size, if they cool quickly they can be small in size. They can be weathered due to wind and rain causing them to be small.

500
Oceanic crust sinks under continental crust forming the Sierras.

What is subduction?

500

0 degrees latitude.

What is the equator?
