What is part of the hydrosphere?
lakes, ocean, water
What are the main regions in California?
desert, valley, coastal, mountain
What are the earth cycles covered in class?
carbon, oxygen, water, and nitrogen
What is wind?
air movement due to the difference in pressure and temperature
Difference between weather and climate
weather is the atmospheric conditions that can change in a short period of time, whereas climate takes longer to change
What is part of the geosphere?
land, rocks, volcanoes, etc
the valley
What is this cycle?
Carbon cycle
What is the difference between local and global winds?
Global wind patterns occur around the world, whereas local winds occur in a smaller scale and location. One example of local winds is sea and land breeze.
overall increase of Earth’s temperature due to an increase of CO2 in the atmosphere which creates a greenhouse effect
global warming
This is which sphere?
Biosphere
What is the importance of California mountains?
once the snow melts, we use the water for our use and irrigation
what is this cycle?
The nitrogen cycle
The Coriolis effect is..
The curvy pattern in which winds travel due to the rotation of earth
How do humans contribute to climate change?
by using CFCs, burning fossil fuels, producing waste, etc
This part of which sphere?
Atmosphere
what percent of the US food does California produce?
About 20%
How do we increase the amount of Co2 in the carbon cycle?
by burning fossil fuels
strong wind currents that could reach speeds of hundreds of miles per hour
Jet streams
What is the role of oceans in climate?
Oceans absorb a large quantity of energy from the sun and help regulate temperature
Oceans are part of the water cycle
Oceans contribute to breeze
troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, exosphere
Extreme natural conditions common to California due to its geography are
earthquakes, tsunamis, wildfires
Explain the carbon cycle
c02 in the atmosphere gets absorbed by plants in the process of photosynthesis. Plants either produce oxygen or get eaten by animals. Once an animal eats the plant, it decomposes and goes to the land or it breathes out c02 and goes back to the atmosphere. Humans burn fossil fuels and it goes back to the atmosphere.
As a result of what, do we have ocean currents?
differences in density, temperature, and salinity
In what way(s) can humans reduce global warming?
Reducing the amount of fossil fuels that are burned, reducing the use of CFCs, using renewable energy, reducing the amount of waste
