100

What three ways do hurricanes cause damage?

100

Name one thing you can do to combat climate change

Reduce food waste, use less plastic, reuse things instead of throwing them away, grow plants, support your public library and parks, and take care of outdoor spaces you visit

200

What are the two differences between a hurricane and a tornado?

Hurricanes have water and tornados do not, their shapes are different in that tornados are thin but tall and hurricanes are very wide but don’t touch the ground

200

Why is the earth’s temperature getting warmer in the summer and even colder in the winter a problem?

Animals, plants, and humans have not evolved to survive in those conditions, and it’s happening too fast for us to change in time. If we can’t stop it, the planet will become unlivable and everything will die.

300

Dolphins and whales use echolocation to help them navigate. What is echolocation?

Echolocation is using sound, specifically how sound bounces off of things around you, to sense where those things are.

300

Name a species of big cat

Jaguar, Leopard, Lion, Cheetah, Panther, Tiger

300

What is the two biggest threats to the tundra biome?

Climate change, overfishing

300

Name at least six out of the nine planets in our solar system

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, Pluto

300

Why is learning about the earth and climate change important?

If you don’t know about it, you can’t care about it. If you don’t care about it, you can’t protect it. We must protect our planet and our future, so we must learn about it.

400

What is one way we can help sea turtles?

Keep beaches safe for baby turtles, stop using plastic, stop eating fish to reduce overfishing and fishing-industry pollution.

400
Explain the difference between a predator and a prey animal.

A prey animal primarily or exclusively eats plants, and predator animal primarily or exclusively eats other animals.

400

What biome is Charlotte, NC in?

400

400

What is one thing we do AT MOSAIC that helps the planet and our environment?

Reduce food waste, use less plastic, reuse things instead of throwing them away, grow plants, support your public library and parks, and take care of outdoor spaces you visit

500

EWhy are coral reefs important?

They provide homes and food for fish and other ocean animals and protect land from storms.

500

Name ANY land animal and explain why they are important to their environment.

Yayyy

500
Name two specific animals that live in freshwater biomes. (“Fish” doesnt count)

Turtles, frogs, river dolphins, manatees, river otters, any specific species of freshwater fish, alligators, snails, etc.

500

How do hurricanes form?

Water heats over the ocean, it rises into the air, then the ocean breeze starts to spin it. It then grows and grows into a massive storm!

500

How is climate change already impacting us?

More and worse storms, more flooding and more droughts, more extreme weather, colder winters and hotter summers, plants dying bc of those temperatures or blooming at the wrong time, animals losing habitats and dying, food becoming harder to grow so there is less so prices go up, air conditioning is required more which causes worsening global warming and the cycle continues, animal extinctions, chemicals in our food to keep it growing make us sick
