A shadow is at the SHORTEST point at this time of day?
What is 12 noon?
50-50 or half and half. ALWAYS.
The shadow will be longest at two times during the day, what are these?
Just after sunrise and just before sunset
It takes this long for the Earth to complete one full rotation.
What is 24 hours?
This starts out: long, shorter, shortest, longer, longest
What is how does a shadow change from morning until late afternoon?
This object is used to study far away objects in the sky.
What is a "telescope"?
When we see the sun moving in the sky, what is really happening?
THe Earth is rotating on it's axis, but because we are so small on Earth, it appears the sun is moving instead of us.
If you look at a shadow at the exact same time of day in winter and summer will they be the same? If not how are they different?
They are different, the shadow in winter will be longer because the sun is lower in the sky, while in summer the shadow will be shorter because the sun is more directly overhead.
The sun appears higher in the sky during this time of year because of the tilt of the earth.
What is "summer"?
Why is it warmer in the summer but colder in the winter?
Because the Earth is tilted, we receive more direct sunlight in the summer, giving us more heat, while in the winter the sun's rays are more slanted (less direct) and we get less heat.
In the late afternoon, shadows POINT in this direction. Why?
What is east, because the sun is in the west
