What is an axis?

Imaginary line that goes through the center of an object and that the object rotates around.

What are the 4 seasons?

Winter

Spring

Fall

Summer

100

What is a pattern of stars called?

Constellation

100

What is a phase?

The moon shapes are called Phases.

100

What is a force?

A push or a pull.

200

What is Revolution?

The movement of one object around another.

200

What is rotation?

The spinning of an object around its axis.

200

Why do constellations appear to move across the sky each night?

As Earth rotates, we see the stars from different angles.

200

How many moon phases are there?

8

200

What is gravity?

A force that pulls all objects with mass toward each other.

300

What is orbit?

The path an object follows as it revolves another object.

300

What would happen if the Earth stopped rotating?

We would not see the sun and stars rise or set.

300

How is it possible that a dim star can appear brighter than a bright star?

If a dim star is closer to Earth than a brighter star, the dim star can look brighter.

300

What does it mean when the moon is in waning phase?

It means it is getting smaller.

300

What is a galaxy?

A group of stars, planets, gases, and other objects in space held together by gravity.

400

What is the solar system?

The Sun and all of the objects that orbit around it.

400

What would a shadow of a tree look like in the morning vs at noon?

Shadow would be long in the morning because the sun is low. At noon it would be shorter because the sun is high in the sky.

400

Why do we see different constellations at different times of the year?

As Earth revolves around the Sun, we are facing different directions during the night, so we see stars in different parts of space.

400

Why don't we see the full circle of the moon lit up every night?

As the moon revolves around Earth, only the side facing the sun is lit up.  We cannot see the side that is facing away from the Sun.

400

On Earth, all objects are pulled in what direction by Earth's gravity?

Toward the center of Earth.

500

What causes the pattern of day and night that we observe on Earth?

The rotation of Earth on its axis.

500

Why is it warmer in the summer and colder in the winter?

In the summer, we receive more direct sunlight. In winter, we receive sunlight at more of an angle because of Earth's tilt.

500

What is an eclipse?

When one object in space gets between the sun and another object.

500

Difference between rotation and revolution.

Rotation is the spinning of an object on its axis. Revolution is is the movement of one object around another.

500

What direction do shadows point in the morning?

West
