Six Core Capabilities
Defined as any material that, because of its quantity, concentration, or physical or chemical characteristics, may pose a substantial hazard to human health or the environment when purposefully released or accidentally spilled
HAZMAT
Primarily designed for carrier aircraft, but is adaptable to meet requirements for rotary wing and various types of smaller aircraft. This hangar bay module is 235’ wide by 85’ deep.
Type I maintenance hangar
This happened in October of 2010
Signing of Navy Energy Vision by the CNO
Material used to protect U.S. Government transmissions, communications, and the processing of classified or sensitive unclassified information related to national security from unauthorized persons and that material used to ensure the authenticity of such communications.
COMSEC
Flammable, Aerosol, Toxic materials, Corrosive materials, Oxidizing materials, Compressed gases
(FATCOC)
Six Categories of HAZMAT
Primarily provided for US Marine Corps Aviation. This hangar bay module is 119 feet deep by 325 feet wide.
Type II hangar
Designed to optimize fuel consumption by naval aviation units
The US Navy Aviation Energy Conservation (Air ENCON)
Fixed wing squadrons employed for both fighter and attack missions
Strike Fighter (VFA)
When removed from the original container is essential to identifying what is inside of a container
Secondary Labeling of HAZMAT
Principally designed for land based patrol and large transport aircraft. This hangar module is 165 feet deep by 165 feet wide.
Type III maintenance hangar
Intended to offset typical operational inefficiencies that arise from the use of Super Hornet aircraft as aerial tankers.
Short-Cycle Mission and Recovery Tanking (SMART)
Fixed wing squadrons that tactically exploit, suppresses, degrade and deceive enemy electromagnetic defensive and offensive systems including communication, in support of air strike and fleet operations
Tactical Electronic Warfare (VAQ)
Document that contains on the potential health effects of exposure to chemicals, or other potentially dangerous substances, and on safe working procedures when handling chemical products.
It is intended to tell what the hazards of the product are, how to use the product safely, what to expect if the recommendations are not followed, what to do if accidents occur, how to recognize symptoms of overexposure, and what to do if such incidents occur.
Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
Estimated cost of $80,000 due to:
Damage to A/C, Cost to recharge system, cost of run-off retention, cost of removal, Associated manpower expenses
False Activation of AFFF
Replacements for incandescent and fluorescent lighting fixtures
Light Emitting Diode (LED)
The conversion of electronic data into another form, called ciphertext, which cannot be easily understood by anyone except authorized parties.
Encryption
Mixed with water or other fluids such that the state of the mixture generated is no longer useful without further treatment, such as oil reclamation.
Liquid whose characteristics have changed markedly since being originally refined and has become unsuitable for further shipboard use, and is not considered economically shipboard recyclable.
Oily waste
Waste Oil
These hangars are 110ft wide by 685 feet long with 25 feet of overhead clearance encompassing 1.4 acres of maintenance and storage space. The hangar bays can hold more than 60 aircraft as well as spare jet engine, fuel tanks, and other heavy equipment. These hangars have divisional doors that can be closed in approximately 18 seconds and isolate the hangar bays into three separate bays to prevent the spread of fire.
