Research shows, that for every year a behavior has been in place, it takes at least ____ months of us as adults being consistent with strategies (even if the behavior doesn't change) for us to see any type of measurable results. This is for our neurotypical students (data taken prior to covid).

One Month.

True or False, If a child is engaging in a behavior that is unsafe such as climbing on a chair in a classroom, it is best to tell them "Not Safe!", "No Thank You!" and "Stop!" immediately to ensure they know they know it is not okay and they may be injured.

FALSE! Even if a behavior is unsafe, we still need to state the behavior we want to see.

What is PTKLF? What does it stand for and how does it relate to Behavior/SEL and these sessions and the work we are doing?

The Preschool/Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations (PTKLF) align with developmentally appropriate practices by outlining what young children are ready to learn and how they learn best. Educators can use them as a guide to design supportive, age-appropriate experiences that build the social, emotional, and behavioral skills necessary for positive interactions and school success.

Explain Strategy #2 "Catch Them Being Good"/Differential Reinforcement

  • Give a Positive Descriptive Acknowledgements (PDA) when they are doing the right thing (not just “Good Job”), BE specific!
    • You are using walking feet, High Five!
    • You shared your playdoh! That is so kind!
  • Remove attention from the challenging behaviors that are not safety hazards and attend to the victims and catch peers being good. Be ready to "turn on" as soon as the target student approximates the target behavior

If you give a child a choice (i.e. "Would you like to color with blue marker or red crayon") and they refuse to choose, what is the phrase the PEP phrase we teach as our next step that will encourage the child to choose next time?

"Choose quickly or I will choose for you" and then follow through with choosing the less desirable choice!

What is the P-3 Learning Progressions? What does it stand for and how does it relate to Behavior/SEL and these sessions and the work we are doing?

The P–3 Learning Progressions is a guidance document (developed by the California Department of Education) that maps how children’s skills in domains such as language and literacy development grow from preschool through grade 3, linking the Preschool/TK Learning Foundations to the Common Core standards and showing a continuous trajectory of development. The P–3 Learning Progressions align with developmentally appropriate practices by illustrating how children’s skills and understanding grow from preschool through third grade. Educators can use them to create continuous, age-appropriate learning experiences that support social, emotional, and behavioral development while ensuring smooth transitions and consistent expectations across early learning years.

300

Give an example of how you have utilized Differential Reinforcement since out last training?

Any example of using giving attention to expected behaviors of target child or peer and removing attention from unexpected or challenging behaviors.

Instead of starting with a Token Economy, we may need to start with a First/Then with this age group due to their developmental level, but Chelsea suggested we always use a Timer with this age level and with our more "defiant" type of kiddos instead of First/Then you can call it "____/Then" like we do at PEP to help make it feel less like an "adult demand"

"WHEN/Then"
