How does a food web differ from a food chain?
A food chain is a path that represents energy flow, and a food web is multiple paths that can show energy flow.
What is population density?
The number of individuals, such as humans or other organisms living in an area.
How have human activities affected runoff in the water cycle?
The removal of vegetation and soil, and constructing drainage networks have increased runoff volumes and shortened runoff time.
Deforestation
The rapid cutting down of trees to supply the constant demand for wood, while also destroying biodiversity and impacting the climate.
Autotroph
An organism that creates it's own food from the sun or chemicals.
As the predator's population goes up, does the prey population go up or down? Explain why.
If there are barely any prey to eat, the predator population declines and the number of prey increase.
What is a limiting factor and give examples?
Limiting factors include environmental conditions that can be food, water, light, space, and/or shelter. If an organism does not have enough of these, they could perish.
If water evaporated but could not condense, what would happen?
There would be no water left on Earth.

This comes from the overflowing of landfills of human waste that makes its way into our oceans, streams, lakes, and bodies of water.

What is the difference between a scavenger and a decomposer?
Scavengers feed off dead animals and break them down into small pieces. Decomposers are mainly fungi and bacteria, and consume the small pieces.

The human population is growing exponentially, and factors include poverty rates, immigration, low life expectancy, etc.

The transfer of nitrogen from the atmosphere to the soil, to living organisms, and then back to the atmosphere

Immigration means to enter an area, emigration means to leave an area.

A part of the decaying process. When a plant or animal dies, decomposers like fungi and bacteria turn the nitrogen into ammonium so it can go back into the nitrogen cycle.

How does photosynthesis relate to the carbon cycle?
Plants and photosynthetic algae and bacteria use energy from sunlight to mix carbon dioxide from the atmosphere with water to form carbohydrates, which store energy. Oxygen is released into the atmosphere, and this process is known as photosynthesis.
