What is a biotic factor

A living or once-living part of an ecosystem

100

Define Succession

A series of predictable events that occur over time that take place in a community. (can be a long or short period of time)

100

Define flow of energy

how energy is transferred from one organism to another, lowering in kJs (Kilocalories)

100

Define ecological organization

The organization of the trophic levels. Like primary consumers and such.

100

Who in our friend group can scream really loud?

Addy obviously

200

Whats another name for consumers and why

Heterotrophs because we consume things for energy

200

Whats another name for producers and why?

Autotrophs because they use sunlight to make their own food/energy

200

Who is practically a siren?

Julian.

What are some differences between primary and secondary succession

Primary succession starts out with bare rock (no soil) and it takes thousands of years to get to a climax community with the help of pioneer species that only primary succession has. Secondary succession is caused by disturbance in an ecosystem, but there is still soil, and it only takes hundreds of years for regrowth to happen.

200

Define food web

Food webs show the complex relationships of energy flow in an ecosystem. In a food web there is usually a variety of producers, consumers, and decomposers.

300

Define food chain

The path of energy from one organism to another in the ecosystem.

300

Who is a dog lover

Julianne

300

What is an ecosystem

All living and nonliving things, whether biotic or abiotic, living in an area together. These areas can be small or large.

300

Define abiotic factors

Non living parts in an ecosystem that directly impact the survival of the biotic factors in the ecosystem.

300

Why does 10% of an organism's energy move on?

The other 90% is used for body heat.

400

Who almost sassed a teacher?

Kennady

400

Give me three examples of primary succession.

A glacier stripping an area to bedrock, a volcanic eruption forming new land, or new sand dunes being formed.

400

What are some examples of secondary succession

Regrowth after a flood, regrowth after a forest fire, or regrowth after a tornado/hurricane.

400

What causes secondary succession

Disturbance in an environment

400

What are decomposers?

Decomposers break down dead plant or animal remains and turn them into nutrients that are released back into the soil. Producers then use these nutrients to make food/ energy for themselves.

500

What is a biome

A set of ecosystems that share similar characteristics like climate, plants, and animals.

500

What does primary succession start out with

Bare rock

500

What is the 10% rule?

In an energy pyramid 10% of the energy moves on from one trophic level to another.

500

Who made this Jeopardy

Ella

500

What is a pioneer species

The first species to arrive in new lands during primary succession. Examples would be lichens or moss.
