These are usually a school-wide event often held in a cafeteria or gymnasium. One was held in the gymnasium by the principal in this school first thing in the morning. It was very empowering and uplifting for the students.

I would have liked to observe this group of students instead of elementary or high school. These teachers are in high demand and teach students who are dealing with an array of physical, intellectual, emotional, and social challenges during this period in their development.

The class sat together during this time and it lasted well into the morning. They shared their personal and classroom goals for the day, how they were feeling, and an interesting fact about themselves.

These schools are not publicly funded and usually have smaller class sizes. I would have liked to observe in one of these schools as well.

These are used to help keep students organized, focused, and productive during a class. A teacher will call out and the class will respond with a corresponding phrase. There were 6 of these listed on the wall of the classroom!
What is a call and response technique?
This school was named after a woman who worked for the Cape Girardeau public school system for 64 years. She had many roles from teacher to principal. The school was built in 1959. This is the school my field was located at.
What is Alma Schrader Elementary?
This is a teaching approach that includes small groups that work together on learning activities. It can be competitive, where the groups compete against one another. This was used in the classroom and it was difficult to quiet the class when collaboration was over.
What is cooperative learning?
This is one of Howard Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligences. This learning style emphasizes movement. I didn't observe much of this in the classroom and would like to see more of it incorporated to help children get up and move.
What is the bodily kinesthetic learning style?
This type of school offers a curriculum that focuses on a specific area such as performing arts, mathematics, science, international studies, or technolog. If one were available, I would have enjoyed to observe there.
