A variable used by the researcher to determine whether it causes a change in another variable
What is an independent variable?
A test that is administered after participants have been exposed to some variation/condition of the independent variable
What is a posttest?
A pre-experimental design that involves one group that is given a treatment and then posttested
What is a one-shot case study
The degree to which an observed change in the dependent variable was caused by differences in/manipulation of the independent variable
What is internal validity?
Individuals have an equal chance of being assigned to either a control group or experimental group
What is Random Assignment?
What is pretest-posttest control group design?
The extent to which findings from one study can be applied to individuals or conditions outside of the experimental setting
What is external validity?
A variable outside of the experiment that may have an influence on changes observed in the dependent variable
What is an extraneous variable?
A quasi-experimental research design which includes at least two groups; only one group is receives the treatment, but both are posttested
What is a nonequivalent group design?
A group in an experiment that does not receive the experiemental treatment
What is a control group?
Factors that are not part of the experimental research that can impact the outcome
What are threats to internal validity?
A threat to internal validity that occurs because the number of participants drop out over time
What is mortality?
A test given before a treatment is administered
What is a pretest?
A type of experimental research design that does not involve the random assignment of individuals to a group
What is a quasi-experimental research design?
research that is conducted where the researcher seeks to determine cause and effect by assessing the impact of an independent variable on a dependent variable.
What is experimental research?
