How should the nurse communicate with an older adult who has dementia?
- Introduce self every time.
- Use simple, short words/phrases.
- Reduce distractions.
- Explain simply each task you are doing (vitals, medications, etc.)
- Maintain eye contact.
- Listen to the client, redirect if needed.
