Duties and Responsabilities
The three ways in which an Aide can assist in the classroom.
What is instructional, behavior, and organization?
Bilingual teacher who only has one group of students. Teaches all content areas within the school day.
What is self-contained classroom?
Instruction is in English and is usually provided by a teacher who only speaks English.
What is ESL?
This is when staff and students are led to accept, understand, value, embrace, notice inequalities, and work for equity.
Social-Cultural Competence
All content areas are taught in one language on A day and all content areas are taught in the other language on B-day.
What is One day/One day?
Teacher assistants provide valuable help to teachers by monitoring the class and handling disruptions in the room.
What is Behavior assistance?
Two groups of students. Students switch teachers.
What is Partner-teacher?
Sequential Literacy, Decreases percentage of Spanish to transition to English
What is Early/ late Exit/ Transitional?
Students understand their identities and those of others.
What is Social Competence?
They conduct tutoring sessions to help kids improve reading and math skills
What is instruction assistance?
One Bilingual teacher and one ESL teacher. The Bilingual teacher teaches all subjects in Spanish and the ESL teacher teaches all subjects in English.
What is a partner-teacher?
Simultaneously Literacy, Instruction is provided equally in both English and Spanish. Students learn along with Native English speakers.
What is Two-way Dual Language?
Fluency in or use of two languages.
What are Bilingualism and Biliteracy?
Half-day in one language, half-day in the other language (students still see all content areas in both languages)
What is half-day/ Half- Day?
They assist classroom teachers with instructional duties.
What is a Teacher's Aide?
Teaches all content areas within the school day.

The students are successful in their content regardless of the language of instruction or their first language.
Ultimately, the children get the most benefit from this because their teacher is able to focus solely on academic improvement.
What is organization assistance?
Multiple teachers (3-4). Multiple student groups (3-4). Student groups rotate. Teachers teach only specific subject areas.
What is Departmentalized teachers?
instruction is in English and usually provided by a teacher who only speaks English.
What is Content-Based?
Fluency in or use of two languages.
Read and write proficiently in two languages.
