What is a Simile?
This is who the story is about. This character is in the story from beginning to end and is directly involved in the main conflict.

The use of concrete objects to represent ideas. A star can represent a correct answer on a worksheet. An "x" represents an incorrect answer.
What is a Symbol? or What is Symbolism?
An intentional exaggeration to add a dramatic effect and emphasize an idea or message.
What is a Hyperbole?
A character whose attitude and beliefs stay the same in the story. The character isn't affected as the plot advances.
What is a Static Character?
This is often the most interesting part of a story because all of the suspense has been leading to this moment. The reader is able to better predict the ending after this scene/event.
What is the Climax?
Sarcastic words from a character who cannot be understood literally.
What is Verbal Irony?
Applies human characteristics to non-human things. "The howling wind reminded me to grab a coat, hat, and gloves."
