What is to follow or to chase?
The events that occur within a story.
What is plot?
When a character has a conflict within themselves.
What is internal conflict or man vs self?

Comparing two things using the words like or as.
What is a Simile?
The directions were ambiguous. They were not specific enough, and I did not know what to do.
What is unclear?
The very end. The problem is solved and the lesson is learned. The whole story comes to an end.
What is resolution?
In the pouring rain, a character cannot cross a flooded bridge.
What is man vs. nature?
When you are finding the differences between two stories.
What is contrast?
Comparing two things, saying one thing is another.
What I went trick or treating, I got a plethora of candy because I went to so many houses.
What is a bunch or a lot?
The beginning of a story. The author introduces the reader to the characters, the setting, and the conflict.
What is exposition?
A character cannot decide if he should tell the principal about a fight that may occur later that day.
What is man vs self?
A strategy that help a reader determine answers to compare/contrast questions.
What is the T-Chart strategy?
Extreme Exaggeration. I am so hungry I could eat a horse.
What is hyperbole?
The cinnamon roll was delectable, I could not stop eating this tasty treat.
What is yummy, delicious, or tasty?
The events that make the story more interesting. They begin after the conflict is introduced, but before the turning point.
What is rising action?
A character is pressured into skipping class by his friends.
What is man vs society?
When a reader can think deeply about a text and compare it to another text.
What are text-to-text connections?
Giving an animal or object human traits. The stars danced in the night sky.
If it snows one week and is 65 degrees and sunny the next, there has been a drastic change in the weather.
What is extreme or severe?
The point at which the character's conflict is resolved or changed in some way.
What is turning point or climax?
A character cannot stand her new boss and has to listen to him whine all day.
What is man vs man?
When a reader can make connections to their own personal lives.
