 Quotation marks are used to indicate a direct quote, transcribe speech to text, signify titles of small works like poems, show that the validity of a word is in doubt, discuss words as words without referencing their intended meaning, and set apart nicknames from formal names.

An adverb provides context in a sentence by describing how, when, where, and to what extent something occurs. Adverbs can be used to modify verbs, adjectives, and even other adverbs. They typically end in -ly ex: Quickly, promptly, clearly, slowly, gradually, eventually, rapidly, seriously, instantly, keenly.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A COLON AND A SEMICOLON? 

A colon (:) is used to introduce information set up by the previous clause. It's typically used before a list, example, or explanation. A semicolon (;) is used to join related independent clauses together in the same sentence without a conjunction.

EXTERNAL: 

  • Character vs. Character: A conflict arises between two or more characters. 
  • Character vs. Nature: The protagonist struggles with a natural force, like a storm or an earthquake. 
  • Character vs. Society: The character clashes with societal norms, rules, or expectations. 
  • Character vs. Supernatural: The protagonist confronts supernatural entities or forces.
