A prediction is something that you think will happen next using clues from the story

Summarizing determines which ideas are most important to share. Similar to a Gist statement.

1st person is when the narrator is a character in the story and uses "I, me, my, us, and we"
2nd person is when the narrator will address you and uses "you, your, yours"
3rd person lets us know what the characters think and they use "she, he, and their names"
What does it mean when you are comparing and contrasting something?
Comparing means that you are looking for similarities and differences. Like apples and oranges are both fruit
Contrasting means that we are comparing things to show they are different. An apple has thin skin that we can eat, whereas oranges have a thicker skin that we cannot eat

Look for clues, ask questions and use information we know to make a good guess.
what the text says + what I already know = a conclusion
When one event causes another one to happen
So the cause is why it happens (I studied my spelling words)
And the effect is what happens because of that (Therefore, I got all of the words correct)

The main idea is what the text is mostly about. Then, the details tell us all about the main idea.
The main idea might be the title of the passage, words that are used more than once, if there are pictures, etc.)
