Important ligaments of the elbow
medial collateral ligament (on the inside of the elbow)
lateral collateral ligament (on the outside of the elbow.)
A sports injury often from playing tennis and golf. You can get this injury from overuse of the elbow.
Tendinitis of the Elbow
What type of joint is the elbow
Hinged
The length from your wrist to your elbow is the same length as your
Foot
Important tendons of your elbow
Biceps tendon
Triceps tendon
Pain on the Inside of your elbow when throwing. Inflamed flexor/pronator tendons. These tendons attach to the upper arm bone on the inner side of the elbow.
Flexor Tendinitis
A sensitive spot where the ulnar nerve runs through a groove in the long bone in your arm called the humerus
Funny bone
The elbow is the knee of the ____________, only more flexible on all sides except backwards.
Arm
The outside (lateral) bump just above the elbow
lateral epicondyle
Inner elbow injury that commonly affects throwers. Damage can range from a minor tear and inflammation to a complete ligament rupture. May notice inner elbow pain, and a decrease in throwing speed.
Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) Injury
What major league pitcher injured his ulnar collateral ligament in 1974, his doctor opted to try a unique surgery to replace the deteriorated ligament with a tendon from somewhere else.
Tommy John
Should you have the misfortune of losing part of an arm, it's better to lose the parts below the ____________
Elbow
The three main nerves of the elbow
radial nerve, the ulnar nerve and the medial nerve
Common in throwers, this injury occurs when the bony prominence on the elbow is forced against the humerus (the upper arm bone). This happens when the arm twists (for example, when overhand pitching a baseball). Continued rubbing can wear away the cartilage on the point of the elbow and stimulate the bone to grow spurs. Bone spurs at the elbow can lead to swelling, pain, and a reduced range of motion.
Valgus Extension Overload (VEO)
The Elbow joint is comprised of
Articulation of the Humerus, with the Ulna and Radius
When your muscles become weakened or fatigued they transfer stress to the bone, leading to small cracks. Athletes who throw with great force — notably, baseball pitchers — often experience these painful fractures in the underside of the elbow.
