A signed copy of the authorization letter from the party.

How do you clear a jammed ballot?

Verify whether the ballot was counted or not, then unlock the top of the ballot box and slide the scanner forward to locate the jammed ballot. If the ballot was counted, push the ballot into the slot to drop in the ballot bin. If it was not counted, pull the ballot out and run the ballot back through the scanner after putting the scanner back in place and locking.

When opening the polls on the voting machine scanner, all election officials need to do what?

Verify the zero tapes and sign.

What do you do if a voter is not listed in the pollbook?

Perform a county-wide search to check if the voter is registered. If the voter is in the wrong precinct, inform them of their correct precinct. If they have changed their address and want to vote at that precinct, they will need to do a same day registration provisional ballot. If you cannot find the voter in the pollbook, contact the Registrar's office.

The protective counter number is the lifetime number of votes on the machine (think car milage). The public counter number is the total number of votes that have been inserted into the machine on that day.

When possible, two election officials need to take the ballot out to the voter.

When checking in a voter, what steps must you take to ensure the right voter is being checked in?

Confirm the voter's full name and address (Especially Jr, Sr, II, and III). Make sure if you are scanning a driver's license, the name and address are correct.

Ballots received from Electoral Board, printed ballots, spoiled/voided ballots, provisional ballots, and curbside voters.

There are no laws preventing a voter from taking a picture of their ballot, as long as they are not disturbing, hindering, or intimidating other voters.

No, the only form of ID that can be provided from a phone is from the Virginia mobile ID app.

A voter's address matches the pollbook, but they only have a voided/expired driver's license for ID. Can they vote?

Yes. A current or voided/expired Virginia driver's license is acceptable. All acceptable forms of ID are found on the Voter Identification Chart in the Chief's manual.

What would you do if a voter comes in, turns in their unvoted absentee ballot, and says they no longer want to receive their ballots by mail?

Have the voter to fill out the request to remove from the permanent list.

Is an authorized observer allowed to observe after 7:00pm and the last voter has cast their vote?

Yes, however, they cannot leave until the Officers of Election have completely concluded their post-election responsibilities.
