What is the difference between a series circuit and a parallel circuit?

A series circuit is a circuit where there is only 1 path for electricity flow.

A parallel circuit has more than one path for current flow.

Which type of circuit (series or parallel) would you want in your home?

Parallel.

You can use one light without needing to turn all other devices. If one light burned out, it would not affect any of the other lights.

What are the basic supplies that you need to build a circuit? How do they work together to make a lightbulb work?

A power source (battery), wires, a device

(lightbulb/buzzer)

The battery provides power to the circuit. Wires connect to both ends of battery and device. This creates a closed path for electricity flow.

Alan shuffled across the carpet. He then touched a metal doorknob. He felt a shock. What happened?

When Alan shuffled across the carpet, negative charges were transferred from the carpet to his body.

His body wanted to get back to a neutral charge and as he touched the conductor (doorknob), the negative charge jumped from his body to the doorknob creating a shock.

Static electricity

What are the basic supplies that you need to build an electromagnet? How do they work together?

You need a battery, wire, and iron (nail).

The wire should be wrapped around the iron core and connected to the battery on each end to make a complete circuit.

Jaden pulled clothing out of the dryer, and he saw a sock sticking to a shirt. What is happening?

In the dryer the clothes tumble together causing them to rub together. This creates a negative charge that transfers from clothing to clothing. The clothing that the negative charge transfers from become positively charged.

Opposite charges attract each other, so the clothing cling  together

What is a close circuit?

When a switch is down and all of the components are properly connected.

Lightbulbs will only light up on a closed circuit because the pathway is complete.

What is an open circuit?

The switch is either up or there is a break/disconnect in the circuit.

Electrons will not be able to make a compete path around the circuit. Lightbulbs will not light.
