Electric World
Zapping Electricity
Shock-o-lot!
Watt are you doing?
Stay 'Current'
100
Our world is an Electric World. Name 5 Electrical devices produced by humans.
Answers may vary. Examples: Microwaves, blow dryers, fridges, cameras, T.V.'s...etc.
100
Electric power is typically measured in what units?
What are WATTS!
100
Materials through which electricity can pass are called...
What are CONDUCTORS!
100
Materials that do not allow electricity to pass through them are called...
What are INSULATORS!
100
True or False...Electricity is a flow of negative charge.
TRUE- electrons have a negative charge.
200
Our World is an Electric World. Name 3 things in the world/wilderness that produce Electricity naturally.
Answers may vary. What are electric Eels, Human brains, Lightning... etc.

True or false? You can extend battery life by storing batteries at a low temperature.
TRUE! Weird right? Some household batteries may last slightly longer if stored in the refrigerator or freezer. Even when not being used, the internal components slowly corrode over time, and cool temperatures can slow down this process.
200
What components do you need to make a simple series circuit to light one bulb? List the 3 basic materials!
What are: Wires, battery, light bulb. Optional: Switch and battery holder.
200
If you put a second battery in a simple circuit, how will it affect the brightness of the bulb?
It will get BRIGHTER!
200
What happens when you have an open circuit? Draw an Open Circuit.
an incomplete electrical circuit in which no current flows. An Open circuit is opposite to a closed circuit.
300
The wire inside an electric bulb is known as the what?
What is the filament.
300
What are the two places on a battery to which circuit wires can be attached called?
What are POSITIVE and NEGATIVE terminals
300
Which is the odd one out and why? STEEL--GLASS--IRON--TIN
What is GLASS because it isn't metal and it doesn't allow electricity to pass through it.
300
What kind of field does an electromagnet create? What are 2 ways to increase this field?
What is an Electric Field. 1. Larger power source (eg. battery) 2. Wrap the Wire more
300
What is a short circuit?
When the electricity takes a shorter path back to the power source (cell or batteries) thus shortening the circuit, and leaving out the resistor (motor, lightbulb, buzzer etc.). Short circuiting will drain the power source at a phenomenal rate, and will create an overload of current.(Creating HEAT) The most commonly used method of prevention against this is the fuse.
400
True or false? Batteries convert chemical to electrical energy.
What is TRUE!
400
What is the path electricity takes called?
What is a CIRCUIT!
400
True of False? The lead of a pencil (graphite) can conduct electricity.
TRUE- Graphite is one of the few non-metallic materials to conduct electricity fairly well.
400
What is a Series Circuit. Draw an example of one and be able to explain it.
A series circuit is a closed circuit in which the current follows one path
400
What is a parallel circuit. Draw an example of one.
parallel circuit is where the circuit is divided into two or more paths.
500
Conductors have a high or low resistance?
What is LOW!! That's why electricity can flow through them easily.
500
Name the 3 parts of the Atom and their electrical charges.
What are Protons, Neutrons and Electrons. Protons=Positive, Neutrons=No Charge and Electrons=Negative
500
What are 6 out of the 10 Electrical Safety Rules?
What are: 1. Stay away from power lines 2. Don't tug on cords 3. Keep fingers away from Outlets 4. Keep electricity away from water 5. Don't overload outlets 6. Stay away from wires (especially if they're frayed) 7. Stay away from substations 8. Keep things away from Power lines (ex. kites, ladders, trees)
500
Draw and label the 3 parts of a battery
Draw a light bulb. From top to bottom: Positive terminal, Case, and Negative Terminal
500
Draw and label a light bulb
Drawn Light bulb. From top to bottom: Filament, Ceramic, Lead Contact, Threaded metal base, Ceramic, Lead Tip.
