What is electricity the flow of?
Electrons
What is a turbine? Provide an example.
It is a machine or engine which uses a stream of air, gas, water, or steam to turn a wheel and produce power. For example, windmills or waterwheels.
What are fossil fuels?
It is a generic term for non-renewable energy sources such as coal, coal products, natural gas, derived gas, crude oil, petroleum products and non-renewable wastes
What is a conductor? Provide an example.
Conductors are the materials or substances which allow electricity to flow through them. For example, copper, brass, steel, gold or aluminium.
What is an insulator? Provide an example.
Materials that do not allow electricity to pass through them are called insulators. For example, plastic, wood, and glass.
What industry consumes the most electricity?
The Transportation industry.
What are the parts of a circuit?
A cell or power source, wires or conductor, device or load and a switch.
How does an electrical circuit work?
An electric current in a circuit transfers energy from the battery to the circuit components.
What is energy?
Energy is the ability to do work.
Name 5 different forms of electricity generation.
Hydropower
Nuclear
Coal
Solar
Natural Gas
Biomass
Wind
Geothermal
Oil
What is potential energy?
Potential energy is energy that is stored in an object due to its position or condition. It is energy that is ready to be used.
What is kinetic energy?
Kinetic energy is the energy of motion, observable as the movement of an object. Every moving object and particle have kinetic energy.
What is a parallel circuit?
A parallel circuit is one that has two or more paths for the electricity to flow, the loads are parallel to each other.
What is a simple circuit?
A series circuit is one in which all circuit elements are arranged in a single path.
What is static electricity?
Static electricity is the buildup of an electrical charge on the surface of an object. It usually remains in one place.
What is hydropower?
Hydroelectric power is a renewable energy source which harnesses the power of moving water to produce electricity b using water to spin a turbine.
What is conserving energy? Provide is energy.
Energy conservation means saving energy by not using more energy than what is needed. For example, turning off the lights when you don't need them.
Name 4 out of the 6 different forms of energy. (Not electricity generation).
Mechanical Energy
Heat Energy
Radiant (Solar) Energy
Electrical Energy
Chemical Energy
Nuclear Energy
What is wind energy?
Wind energy uses the power of wind to turn a turbine which generates electricity.
What is the different between static and current electricity?
Current electricity exists when charges are able to constantly flow. As opposed to static electricity where charges gather and remain at rest, and stay in the same spot.
Who discovered electricity?
Benjamin Franklin
What is natural gas?
Natural gas is a fossil fuel found underground. It emits less carbon dioxide than coal when burned. The natural gas is burned to create steam, which then turns a turbine to create electricity.
What is geothermal energy?
Geothermal energy uses the internal heat from the earth's crust to produce energy. Geothermal power plants draw fluids from underground reservoirs to the surface to produce steam. This steam then drives turbines that generate electricity.
Give me an example of energy transformation.
Answers will vary. Teacher approved answer.
What is biomass energy?
Biomass involves burning organic meterial, such as plants and animal waste, to produce steam which turns a turbine to make electricity.
