The "where and when" of a story. It is the time and place during which the story takes place.
What is setting?
Is excitement, tension, and curiosity.
What is suspense?
Is the organized pattern or sequence of events that make up a story.
What is plot?
The main character of the story, the one with whom the reader identifies. This person is necessarily good.
What is a protagonist?
Is the conclusion and all the loose ends are tied up.
What is Resolution?
The feeling the author tries to convey throughout the story.
What is mood?
DOUBLE POINTS!! Is the hint or clue about what will happen in story.
What is foreshadowing?
Usually occurs at the beginning of a short story. Here the characters are introduced.
What is exposition?
The force in opposition of the protagonist; this person may not be "bad" or "evil", but he/she opposes the protagonist in a significant way.
What is an antagonist?
When the reader does not expect it.
What is surprise ending?
A person, animals, and things participating in a story.
What are characters?
Interrupts the normal sequence of events to tell about something that happened in the past.
What is flashback?
Begins to develop the conflict(s).
What is Rising Action?
Is an outside force that may be a person, group, animal, nature, or a nonhuman obstacle.
What is external conflict?
A character from the story is telling the story; using the pronouns "I" and "me".
What is first person point of view?
The dramatic struggle between two forces in a story.

Is the use of specific objects or images to represent ideas.
What is symbolism?
Climax is the turning point of the story, and the main character comes face to face with a conflict.

An outside narrator is telling the story; using the pronouns "he", "she", and "they".

The practical lesson or moral from a story after we read it.

The events that take place after the climax.

Takes place in a character's mind.
