What do we call "phrasal verbs"? Give examples

They are verbs that consist of a main verb and a particle, sometimes 2 particles: give in, look forward to etc.

Which past tense do we use to describe an action in progress in the past at a specific time or during specific period? Hint: we also use it to show background actions in a story.

Past Continuous: 

I was doing laundry yesterday at 5pm; 

We were playing when the rain started;

What do we use Past Simple for?

Name all its functions and give examples.

1) For repeated actions in the past: We played in this background as children;

2) For single actions in the past: I visited my aunt last week;

What do we use Past Perfect for? Give an example

We use it when we are talking about the past and specifically when we're talking about a past action which happened before another past action and the order of the events is not obvious. 

So we need Past Perfect to show which past action happened first: When I got home I saw a carton of juice. It was empty, somebody had drunk it all.

When do we use "Used to" and how it's different from Past Simple? 

Give examples with positives/negatives & questions.

We use it to describe past habits, states, actions. Something was one way in the past and it's not the same anymore. 

It's the same as past simple, but we cannot use it to describe single actions in the past.
