What is the problem and solution?

An avalanche is a mass of snow and ice that slides rapidly down a mountainside. Avalanches can be quite sudden and can move at speeds of up to eighty miles per hour. The biggest concern is that people may become trapped under the snow. Traditionally, the best way to protect yourself from avalanches is to use an avalanche transceiver. These devices send out signals so rescuers can find people buried under snow. Unfortunately, we can't predict when avalanches will happen. In recent years, though, companies have focused on this issue. New high-tech tools use sensors to measure snowpack and find conditions that might lead to an avalanche.
