What sort of energy is produced and needed for all life on Earth?

Thermal energy

100

Give an everyday example of an energy transformation.

Correct as long its okay with teacher

100

What does the introduction consist of?

Introduction in a scientific report consists of all the background information needed in order for someone to read your report.

100

What does the law of conservation of energy state?

The law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed from one form to another.

A ball of mass 2 kg is held 5 meters above the ground. Calculate its gravitational potential energy.

98J

200

What type of energy is stored in a battery?

Chemical energy

200

What type of energy transformation occurs when you turn on a light bulb?

Electrical energy is transformed into light energy (and some thermal energy).

200

What is the aim?

The aim describes the purpose of the investigation?

200

In a closed system, if the potential energy decreases, what must happen to the kinetic energy according to the law of conservation of energy?

In a closed system, if the potential energy decreases, the kinetic energy must increase by an equivalent amount to conserve the total energy, assuming no other forms of energy are involved.

A car of mass 1000 kg is moving at a speed of 20 m/s. Calculate its kinetic energy.

200,000J

300

How is gravitational potential energy different from thermal energy?

Gravitational energy is a type of potential energy. Thermal energy is just a type of kinetic energy.

300

What energy transformations occur when you use a toaster to make toast?

Electrical energy is transformed into thermal energy (heat), which toasts the bread. There may also be some light energy emitted as the heating elements glow.

300

What does the method involve?

A dot pointed list of exactly everything you used within your experiment. This includes quantities and sizes.

Explain how the law of conservation of energy applies to the conversion of potential energy in a pendulum.

When pendulum is raised; it has GPE. When it moves down the GPT is converted into KE. When it moves back up again, KE which is converted into GPE again.

A box is lifted to a height of 5 meters above the ground. If its gravitational potential energy is measured to be 250 joules, what is the mass of the box?

5.1kg

400

How does gravitational potential energy change as an object is lifted into higher altitude?

GPE increases

400

What energy transformation takes place in a battery-powered flashlight?

Chemical energy stored in the battery is transformed into electrical energy, which is then converted into light energy and some thermal energy by the bulb.

400

What are the two parts of the discussion.

1. Analysis and interpretation of results. 2. Evaluation of procedures.

Describe an example of the law of conservation of energy in a roller coaster ride.

At the top of the first hill, the roller coaster has maximum potential energy. As it descends, this potential energy is converted into kinetic energy, increasing the coaster's speed. As it ascends the next hill, kinetic energy is converted back into potential energy. Throughout the ride, the total energy of the system (potential + kinetic) remains constant, minus any losses due to friction and air resistance.

A car has a kinetic energy of 5000 joules while traveling at a speed of 20 meters per second. What is the mass of the car?

25 kilograms.

500

Give three examples of how energy is transferred and transformed in a solar-powered car.

Solar energy absorption: light energy > electrical energy. Electrical energy being stored in batteries (chemical energy). Car is in motion, electrical energy is converted into mechanical energy. Kinetic energy makes it go forward. Mechanical energy into heat energy (friction in wheels and air resistance).

500

How does the process of photosynthesis demonstrate energy transformation?

In photosynthesis, light energy from the sun is transformed into chemical energy. Plants absorb sunlight and use it to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose (chemical energy) and oxygen.

500

What are some differences between an engineering process and the scientific method?

Scientific method has a question asked, hypothesis, a method and an experiment is conducted. Engineering process has problem to be solved with specific requirements, a prototyping and testing phase and a final product.

Describe the principle of energy conservation and how it applies to the conversion of mechanical energy to electrical energy in a wind turbine.

Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only converted into other types. In a wind turbine KE of moving air is converted into mechanical energy as the wind turns the blades of the turbine. ME is then transferred to a generator where its convert into electrical energy. Transformation is not 100% due to friction and other inefficiencies.

A 500 g ball is dropped from a height of 10 meters. Calculate its speed just before it hits the ground (assume no air resistance).

14m/s.
