Total duration of the ATP - PC System?

0-12 seconds.

100

Total duration of the LA system?

6-60 seconds.

100

Total duration of the aerobic system?

60+ seconds - Long-term

100

Where do we get our energy from?

Food.

100

What is O2 the chemical symbol for?

Oxygen.

200

The PC stands for __________, being the fuel source for this system.

Phosphocreatine.

200

The by-product of the LA system is?

Lactic Acid

200

List an example of when you may use the aerobic system during outdoor experiences?

long tramp, setting up camp, mountain biking for extended time, endurance run

200

The three macronutrients are?

Carbs, proteins, fats.

200

What is the name for energy within the body?

ATP

300

What is the ideal recovery for the ATP system?

Passive, 2-3 minutes.

300

Intensity of the LA system?

High, 80-95% max HR

300

Intensity of the Aerobic System?

Low Intensity.

300

nuts, avocado, olive oil, and oily fish are examples of what type of macronutrient?

Fats (unsaturated!)

300

List 3 acute responses to exercise and 2 chronic responses to exercise

Acute: Breathing rate increases, heart rate increases, body temperature increases

Chronic: Cardiac Hypertrophy, Tidal Volume Increase, Increased Stroke Volume

400

List an example of when you may use the ATP-PC system in Outdoor activities.

jumping over a creek, Bouldering, Chopping wood for camp, etc.

400

The fuel source of the LA system is?

Glucose/glycogen

400

What is a byproduct of the aerobic system?

Carbon Dioxide and Perspiration

400

Which of the three macronutrients are used only as energy when body is in starvation mode?

Proteins

400
How do the Circulatory and Respiratory systems work together?
the heart pumps blood throughout the body, while the respiratory system brings in oxygen and out carbon dioxide. The blood is pumped by the heart to the lungs to bring oxygen throughout the body, and co2 out of the body.
500

List an advantage and a disadvantage of this energy system?

Advantages:immediate activity, no by-product, no need for O2

Disadvantages: Only a short time, and leaves body with O2 debt

500

List an example of when you may use the Lactic Acid system outdoors?

Steep Ascent hiking, Mountain biking hill climb, sprint to catch your friend in a kayak

500

Fuel sources for the aerobic system?

CHO's, Fats.

500

Food fuel that when broken down provides the most energy?

Fats.

500

Provide a narrative of how you move between the 3 energy systems during an outdoor activity?

When I start mountain biking, I begin using my ATP-PC system to get started, because I was so excited and really wanted to start out in the front of the group. I then move into my aerobic system as I pedal across the flat ground. Soon I see a hill, and my LA system takes over as I begin the climb. My body returns back to the aerobic system, and keeps going as we still have a long ride ahead.
