Steps in the Process
What if...
What if... (again)
100

Scientist who uses the Engineeering Design Process to creae newtechnology, tools, systems, or products to solve a real world problem.

Engineer

100

After you research multiple solutions, and have chosen the best solution within the projects design criteria and constraints, you sould

Step 3: Plan, Design, and Create

1st  a model (drawing) andthen  build a solution (prototype) .

100

...my paper airplane crashes every time I try to fly it.  What should I do?

Redesign it and test it again.

100

... scientists test their rocket and it explodes after launch?  What should they do next?

Analyze and evaluate data  - find out what went wrong and why

Back to the drawing board ! REDESIGN , test again and evalate !

200

any designed system, product, or process that is created to solve  some "problem".

technology

200

After you build a prototype, you must do this.

Step 4: Test it! to see if it works ! Evaluate your design's functionality

200

...I research my problem and find someone else has already come up with a solution?

Decide if their solution meets your criteria and constraints.  If it does, you could use their solution!

Or build onto their exsistig solution

200

True or False : Most products require at least three cycles of testing and must evaluated as successful before they can be produced

TRUE, many products required multiple quality control passes before release

300

a working model of a design

prototype

300

If the prototype does not meet your criteria, or fails you must do this.

Redesign , rebuild, then test again

300

After the testing phase...I see that my classmates have a different solution that seems better than mine?  What should I do?

Ask them how they did it and try to use the parts that worked for them in your solution re design

300

Alex wants to buld a house here is his wish list

-3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths.

-Must be atleast 2300 square foot and

-Enviornmentsl friendly materials ONLY

-1 car garage as well..

Alex' all in Budget is $75,000 for all parts and labor

** Alex's wish list represents the designs's .....

Critera/requirements

400

Preliminary drawing, sketch, or detailed picture of prototype before it is built.

MODEL

400

Once you are satisfied that your design meets your criteria and solves the problem, has been tested and data is there as proof the next and final step is to

Step 5:Communicate your results- release your product/ finial prototype. present your solution !

400

...someone in my group disagrees with our solution? What should we do?

Talk with each other (communicate) and try to help them understand why your group wants to try one solution over the other. Try to come to  a compromise

Best solution with most votes wins !

400

...I complete my design process, but then realize my solution doesn't meet one of my criteria? What do I do then?

Return to the plan and build step so you can create a solution that meets all of your criteria (this is the meaning of redesign!)

500

Given the problem, determine the criteria, and constraits of the solution.

Step 1: Define the Problem

500

Alex wants to buld a house here is his wish list

-3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths.

-Must be atleast 2300 square foot and

-Enviornmentsl friendly materials ONLY

-1 car garage as well..

Alex' all in Budget is $75,000 for all parts and labor

** His budget, materials used and time to build the house  represents this projects ....

constraintss; limitations  for design
