What is my policy on laptops and tablets in the classroom?

Many of my in-class writing assignments are digital and so you will need your tablets and/or laptops. I expect you to use these devices exclusively for class-related content.

Does this course allow you to explore essay themes that are relevant to your major or other interests?

Yes. While the course is themed after myths and monsters, I want to offer enough flexibility for everyone to write essays they truly care about. The thematic constraints are designed to encourage creativity. If you have an essay idea but are worried that it falls outside the theme, please talk to me and I will help you find a way to make it work.

A "C." A final course grade of "C-" (72.9) or lower will result in an "NC."

What should you do in cases of a documentable emergency or illness that prevents you from attending class?

Provide me with documentation as soon as possible. This will allow me to make sure this absence does not negatively impact your grade. Be aware that you still must limit your total class absences to 7 or less to avoid an automatic NC for the course

Does lack of proper citation for sources count as academic dishonesty?

Yes. This class teaches you how to cite sources carefully, but a failure to cite sources is a form of academic dishonesty

What happens if you miss 7 or more classes?

Missing 7 or more classes, for any reason (even in documented cases), will result in an automatic NC for this course and you will have to retake it.

Meet briefly or email me to explain your plans for revision. Then resubmit your essay in a portfolio with your original essay

What happens if you miss more classes beyond your "freebies"?

Each absence after 3 will lower your final course grade by 1/3 of a letter grade

It is a 1-credit course that enhances ENGL 102 with one-on-one support for writing assignments

How Do you Get Access to the Writer's Harbrace Handbook?

You can access it online or request a physical copy. You have inclusive access if you took 101 during the fall semester.
