Mood is how the text makes the reader feel. Tone is how the author feels about the subject of the text. You can read an article about school uniforms. Maybe a principal wrote it and so the principal's tone is passionate because he thinks uniforms are a great idea. However, you read it and it makes you angry because you hate uniforms. So, the mood is caustic or frustrating.
