Identify a link (all the sentences) in the melcon paragraph.
Up to this point in the Lord of the Flies, the most notable quality about Jack is his need for power. First of all, Jack is always mistreating Piggy. In chapter four Jack hits Piggy in the stomach and “his voice was vicious with humiliation” (Golding 71). After Piggy tells Jack he should have kept the fire going, Jack feels powerful when he hits Piggy because it shows he has control and makes Piggy look bad. Jack hits him because Piggy embarrassed Jack, so in return Jack humiliated Piggy. Also, Jack is obsessed with hunting and killing pigs. In chapter three when Ralph is trying to have an important talk with Jack, all Jack can think about is where the pigs could be (Golding 54). Killing animals is a control thing. Jack has all the power when killing the pig because the pig is pretty defenseless besides running away. Then Jack can bring it back to camp and everyone can admire him and he gets to look like a hero for bringing home the meal, which makes him feel good about himself. So, Jack’s mistreatment of Piggy, his obsession with hunting, and his clashes with Ralph all show a clear desire for power and need to be in control.
