A simile is a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind. It makes sentences more vivid or emphatic, e.g., as brave as a lion, crazy like a fox.

Typically, the words "like" or "as" are used in the comparison.

A teenager waking up early to go to school is as tired as an old who slept on rocks.

Alliteration is a term to describe a literary device in which a series of words begin with the same consonant sound. A classic example is:“She sells seashells by the sea-shore."

An irregular noun is a noun that becomes plural by changing its spelling in other ways than adding an “s” or “es” to the end of the word. The apostrophe indiciating possession always goes at the end of the word.

Why is Odysseus traveling alone? What happened to his shipmates? What does this tell us about Odysseus' character?

Odysseus is travelling alone because his shipmates died due to their own foolishness. Homer opens with this example mainly to remind us that Odysseus is not to blame for their death--that he, despite all odds, is a survivor, a triumphant hero of war.
